At the crossroads of philosophy and art history, Bernard Teyssèdre opened up a wide range of fields of research, arousing the enthusiasm of his students but also disconcerting those who remained attached to the traditional boundaries of their discipline. Presenting his intellectual career today means rediscovering some of his forgotten works in aesthetics, to show their singularity and their profoundly Hegelian coherence, even though his research took very different forms and eruditely tackled fields that were far removed from one another. We also take a philosophical look at the lesser-known aspects of his literary, artistic, and institutional activities, with his decisive contribution to the development of aesthetics and the introduction of the visual arts into university studies. This panorama would not be complete without mentioning his research in paleontology, long kept secret and a priori far removed from aesthetics.
