The figure of the thuriferous angel in Revelation 8
de Lassus, Alain-Marie
The figure of the thuriferous angel in Revelation 8 - 2020.
41
Chapter 8 of the Book of Revelation describes an offering of incense in heaven and the sending of fire from the altar to the earth. This liturgy is performed by an “angel” in whom the ancient Latin commentators of the Apocalypse recognized a Christological figure. Careful examination leads one to take seriously the Christological interpretation of this «angel» and to better appreciate the distinction between christology and pneumatology in Revelation.
