Priestly celibacy in the school of St. Joseph
Lalanne, Luc Marie
Priestly celibacy in the school of St. Joseph - 2021.
7
In response to the Lord’s call, St. Joseph took home his wife, the Mother of the Word of God. In this truly unique nuptial alliance, Mary’s divine maternity was, for him, ultimate spring of the total gift of himself by the power of the Holy Spirit. Through grace, he loved Mary with a chaste and virginal love, devoting himself entirely to the Child and His Mother. It is in the light of the mystery of Joseph that the spousal dimension of the celibacy of priests, ministers of Christ, Spouse of the Church, finds its true depth. It is in the Church’s service as spouse and mother, that the priests’ unceasing act of self-giving is rooted, fulfilled and renewed. This is where the celibacy to which priests are committed acquires its meaning. A meditation to mark the Year of St. Joseph.
