Debating about interdisciplinarity in action: the ‘Interdisciplinarity/ies’ conference of the Réseau national des Maisons des sciences de l’homme - 2023.
36
The Réseau national des Maisons des sciences de l’homme (Rn-MSH), set up in 22 French universities, launched a reflection on interdisciplinarity practices and policies. Two stages were defined. The first, the ‘Interdisciplinarity/ies’ conference, took place in September 2021. During the workshops, experiences and projects carried out within the MSH were examined and discussed with the focus on interdisciplinarity in action. Then, in January 2022, reflections were broadened to assess the contribution of interdisciplinary dynamics to the redefinition of the knowledge regime. Non-academic forms of knowledge and the involvement of science in social issues were taken into consideration. We refer here in particular to the organisational arrangements that allow to reach a subtle balance between lowering the limitations imposed on scientific discipline structures while preserving the intellectual resources of disciplinary communities.
