The role of perinatal psychiatry has become increasingly established within the broader field of perinatal care. Mental health during the perinatal period has indeed become a priority public health issue. The Perinatal Health Assessment and Orientation Unit was designed as a referral and expertise structure for the most complex cases of parental psychiatric disorders. The advantages of such a unit for analyzing needs and implementing and coordinating a personalized, graduated, and balanced care pathway is illustrated through a clinical case study.
