The Disjunctive Particle ἤ in Aristophanes’s Comedies - 2013.
98
This paper deals with the question of the various uses of the disjunctive particle ? (“or”) in ancient Greek, in Aristophanes’s comedies. This particle is used both as a disjunctive coordinating particle and as a way to introduce the complement of the comparative form of an adjective. It is assumed that ancient Greek had nothing but an open disjunction, and that the asymmetry responsible for rejecting the second conjunct in a disjunction is due to the conjuncts themselves.
