The European Union is developing strategies that are powerless to help resolve regional problems in the Western Balkans and counter-productive for its influence in the Balkan region and beyond. In Kosovo, Bosnia-Herzegovina, and Serbia, all the vulnerabilities of the fragile local situation are being called into question, along with those of European security more broadly. The European Union urgently needs to adapt its strategies to this new geopolitical situation.
