The ambivalence of the “race to el khobza” - 2011.

As a way of life for subjects living in the margins of the “security pact,” the “race to el khobza” (bread) is fundamentally ambivalent. Playing with power is necessary in order to domesticate the uncertainties of life in the margins of society and to tame violence in order to escape precariousness. This race is also a subjection to mechanisms of power, producing frustrations and feelings of humiliation. Therefore, in Tunisia, the governmentality of el khobza is both the matrix of obedience and revolt.
