Towards new penal boundaries - 2012.

The electronic monitoring of offenders is the ideal object for analyzing the relationship between space and socio-technical devices. The article aims first to explain the complex relationship between electronic surveillance and prison sentence. Findings from an observation of practice will help to demonstrate that electronic monitoring is closely connected with imprisonment. In this perspective, this measure fails to renew the traditional concept of punishment. It will however be shown that outside the criminal field, electronic monitoring is a tool that produces broad effects beyond the boundaries of justice, which transforms behavioral norms, sets new limits of space and time and tends to intervene into the relationship between individuals in social space.
