Business Associations Facing Regionalism

Business Associations Facing Regionalism - 2010.

45

Within the framework of new regionalism, our paper proposes a model of potential incentives for business associations to support the regionalisation process: we propose a new analytical framework, which develops four main regional incentives at a two-fold level. At a political actor level, the organisations seek intervention in policy agendas and regional alliances. At the organisational level, the organisations aim at accessing decentralised public services, funding and some degree of institutional representation. Third, we apply this model to four Catalan organisations, three business associations (Foment del Treball Nacional, Barcelona’s Chamber of Commerce, PIMEC) and one think tank (Cercle d’Economia) and we try to prove how these incentives are a trigger for their regionalisation. The case under study is the demands for a decentralised and partly privatised airport of Barcelona. The methodology used is qualititative.
