Child psychiatry is still a new medical field in China and it requires significant improvement. In the context of a drastically changing society, many children and adolescents are seeking out professional mental health services. This paper analyzes some important aspects in child and adolescent psychiatry in China today: the social context, two mental disorders common in children and adolescents (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and anorexia nervosa), and treatment in public hospitals.
