Dissemination of Agro-ecological Knowledge in the State of Oaxaca (Mexico)

Dissemination of Agro-ecological Knowledge in the State of Oaxaca (Mexico) - 2014.
34
Data collected from a project of agro-ecology for the restoration of grounds in the state of Oaxaca (Mexico), permit us to describe the concrete forms of articulations between scientific knowledge and peasant knowledge and their justifications by agronomists. Both the modalities of translations operated and the spaces of incommensurability are questioned. The analysis of two types of dispositive for the transfer of agro-ecological knowledge – training and feria of milpa – shows the mobilization by the agronomists of representations, practices, more than knowledge of the farmers. A set of redefinition is operated through the articulation of the knowledge. The category “current peasant knowledge” (that includes according to the agronomists the knowledge harmful to the environment) appears as a “politicized” cognitive category serving an objective of socio-environmental transformation. It seems that one of the main constraints to the definition of really “multi-epistemological” agro-ecological knowledge lies with a conception of the translation understood as a means to value, as much as to validate, the peasant knowledge.
