Drug Policies and Models of Addiction - 2004.

72

This paper compares a number of economic models of addiction. We show that they are all characterised by specific assumptions relating to tastes, changes in tastes, information and dynamic consistency. From a normative point of view, this rich set of assumptions may justify liberal as well as paternalistic public policies. Current researches thus aim at testing these assumptions in order to evaluate the efficiency of associated drug policies. Better data are needed for this research agenda in France.Classification JEL: D11, D12, D6, D83, I12.
