3

This study attempts to identify the board of directors and firm characteristics that can promote the process of the feminization of boards, as well as those that jeopardize it. This study is conducted on a sample of 80 French SBF 120 companies from 2007 to 2016. The results show that the family ownership, the firm size and age favor the process of feminization of boards. In addition, the independence of boards has a positive impact on the feminization of boards above a certain threshold. Finally, a higher average age of directors minimizes the women chances to join boards of directors.
