Through the description of the decors of two sites, the infirmary of the novitiate of Rome and the Hôtel-Dieu de Lyon, this essay proposes a sort of catalogue of artistic themes adapted to the accompaniment of the sick and a justification of the iconographic choices intended to help the patients through their trials. We will argue that, in the era in question, iconography was actually able to affect the health of its viewers. We will also show how works of art had an important impact on the world of hospitals.
