The paediatrician and psychoanalyst Donald Winnicott recognised the fundamental importance of play as a therapeutic space, but also as a space for the structuring of the child. Is it not possible to rediscover at other ages of life this place where one escapes the productivist injunction and where it is possible to develop the potential for surprise, creation, and grace that each person maintains, even in the midst of the most incapacitating illness?
