"Poor White Trash" or the Abject Poverty of the White American - 2009.

'Poor white trash' is, in the United States, the one everyone knows but whose name must remain unsaid. A social stigma, incarnating physical decay, moral vice and infamy, he is represented as a racial hybrid, at the margin of 'white decency' but also an ideological instrument. This article chronicles the evolution of this ambiguous character, both a literary and social myth, from its birth around 1820 to the latest developments in 'Whiteness Studies.'
