This article offers an overview of the new wave of translations from American into French of essays in the fields of literary theory, philosophy and social sciences over the last ten years.'?Indeed, the annual number of such translated titles has doubled over the past decade. The first objective is to sort out and categorize the selected books as well as describe the roles played by various mediators and institutions along the process of their publication. In addition, it seeks to emphasize the epistemological and political stakes of such an influx of 'American theory'? for France's contemporary intellectual field.
