This research analyzes how music stars’ fan communities perform narrative work by cowriting their idol’s story. Three fan communities have been studied, using ethnographic and netnographic methods. The article details six stages through which the process of the star’s narrative co-construction by their fans unfolds. It examines the policies that managers can use to guide this work.
