After a short theoretical introduction to the concept of Nachtr??glichkeit (deferred action), the author addresses the intervention of this particular temporal dimension we can observe at work in the treatment. Nachtr??glichkeit represents not only a temporal dimension that characterises the human psyche but also the temporal movement specific to the session and the analytic process, the characteristic mindset of the analyst at work, which is constituted as posteriority and distinguishes the transference movement from a mere reductive repetition of ancient internalised object relations.
