In considering Freud’s essays on artists, leads one to wonder about Freud’s own prowess and predilections. Did he draw? What was his aesthetic preference and why? I centre on his preference for sculpture and his vast collection of antiquities. Accepting Freud’s gaze as ‘familial’, I observe those trans-generational links, which play out in the DNA through my grandfather Ernst and father Lucian ending with examples of my own work where Sigmund Freud’s theories have inspired me both consciously and otherwise.]
