The evolution of psychoanalytic training is marked by the proposition of new models, in particular the “French model”, which favours reflection on the reductive tendencies that can take hold of training. Fortunately, the theoretical elaboration of the French model followed its actual setting-up subject to the impact of pragmatic necessities linked to the circumstances of the post Second World War period. Certain theoretical determinants were nonetheless latent; for instance, the criterion of “freedom” which is the precondition for the realisation of the process of après-coup.
