The Lack-of-Being ( Manque-à-être), in which Desire has its source, is created, according to Lacan, at the point when we want to gain access to knowledge of ourselves. We get lost in wanting to know ourselves in and through the act of language. In reality, this Lack is nothing but the eternal punishment that the religious Lacan inflicts upon us for our guilty desire to Know. The unbridgeable Lack is the punishment we deserve to suffer for claiming to Know. But fortunately a Lacanian psychoanalytic treatment can bring us salvation by making us aware of our impossibility of knowing. Thanks to this we will no longer fail to be aware of our lack-of-being and our impossibility of knowing.
