The author questions the use and impact of the biblical terms Makom and Shoah. Makom, used by Israeli reporters to introduce the notion of infinite analytic space, is inspired by Levinasian philosophy. In Eva Weil’s report, the term Shoah, examined over ten or so years in her seminar on collective traumas, allowed, among other things, the introduction of the notion of a space of disavowal to account for the refusal of hear or say the unnameable dimension of “what happened”.
