Advances in research on the body ego and their contribution to body work in BPP - 2022.

The contributions of G. Haag on the construction of the bodily ego support the aims of BPP: to remain concerned about the patient’s body, as long as the latter has not been able to develop sufficient attention and symbolization of his sensory and tonic experiences to make room for them in his mental life. However, in many cases, this can already be well developed. One of the ambitions of BPP is to permit the helping person of the first stages of life to emerge, as a structuring internal object, on a body-psychic stage that is more tolerant of the possibility of distress; just as important is the leaning of a protective paternal third party on a solid background object. It is through the body that traces of abandonment, attacks of a cruel primitive superego, as well as the withdrawals of the patient into areas of splitting that prevent him or her from integrating primitive object-related impulses, can be reworked, and hopefully transformed.
