Considering emergent behavior as non-typical for a given genre, we analyzed the emergence of several speech roles in French talk shows. Using a methodology combining pragmatic analysis, statistical analysis, and reception studies, we identified and analyzed the contexts and interaction processes of the two main emergent guest roles of our corpus. This analysis shows how hosts and guests with mutual professional interests implicitly cooperate in the construction of an unexpected guest role.
