A quick glance at the recent history of Latin America shows the point to which the period evokes an advent of the age of reason for the continent. Pacified thanks to the lucky gamble of an integration based on growth and democracy, the political system, however, excludes a large part of the population, leading to new political tensions, delimited by the contours of the “losing” social classes. Thus, Latin America, despite the decline of the revolutionary phenomenon of the ’60s and ’70s, may once again find itself on the brink of radical movement. The new leftist “populist” powers, especially Bolivarian socialism, are willing to respond to the expectations of the less-favored classes by modifying the political regime.
