Vargas Llosa’s visit to Brazil in the summer of 1979 is well-known to have been decisive in the final phase of the writing of The War of the End of the World. The unpublished correspondence that the novelist had with his Brazilian colleagues and informants, Jorge Amado and Nélida Piñon, sheds new light on the novel. In this paper, we analyze a few of its key features.
