When we founded the Association for Research and Intervention in Psychosociology ( arip) in 1959, as conductors of our first T. group our main references were Kurt Lewin, the National Training Laboratory and Tavistock’s journal Human Relations. When I began to take patients in analytic group psychotherapy around 1973, I tried to link this experience with my own psychoanalysis and the works of Foulkes and Bion that I have known since they began to publish. They were not just an influence, but the very basis and support of my own practice as group analyst. When we founded the European Transcultural Group Analysis Association in 1985, we had the occasion to work together with analysts from the Group Analytic Society, such as M. Pines and D. Brown. When we began to conduct intercultural workshops together, we encountered differences in analytic practice that we did not expect to meet.
