Beyond the metaphor of the body signifying the group’s unity, it can be shown that certain mechanisms which govern the development of psychic life rely on spatial-corporeal characteristics which are reactualized together within groups. Constituting three-dimensional space, establishing psychic skins, activating containing mechanisms and narcissistic unification all break with their biological origins and become psychological mechanisms which can be used by both the individual and the group.
