This paper presents two aspects of treatment in therapeutic institutions. It first discusses the setting and the spirit on which the task of “regulating the institutional team” is based. Then, it describes two institutional issues that underpin most difficulties: the interaction between the individual and the collective, and the importance of the third function in the life of the institution. This paper discusses a few situations that illustrate the place of the therapist and the elements on which his/her interventions are based.
