I am proposing a metapsychology of Linking, of the Two, which depends on practices arising from “doing between two or several subjects” ? subjects who are endowed with irreducible alterity and strangeness/quality of being a stranger ( étrangéité) which does not correspond to what is in the order of identificatory movements. Conflicts arise from the way of managing radical difference, the void inherent to the space in between, the relations of power. It is a matter of recognising the difficulties arising from two contexts of subjective production which are superimposed. It becomes necessary to introduce a specific vocabulary to recognise the conflicts specific to each space. A short clinical example will make it possible to follow the alternatives of these hypotheses and of the possible interventions.
