Freud and the Staging of the Unconscious in Oedipus Rex: The Theatricalization of the Unconscious - 2010.
2
In 1900, Freud unveils the stage of the unconscious in Œdipus Rex, after having been essentially interested by the private theatre of hysteria. He situates this tragic unconscious which generates the images of dreams and nightmares on another stage (der andere Schauplatz ). The dramatization of the unconscious is dependent on the theatralization of language and brings into play the real of the drive and the objects of “jouissance”, such as the gaze and the voice. The fantasy illustrates the moment when the subject stages the captivating/capturing power of the imaginary.
