While paying tribute to Franz Kaltenbeck’s psychoanalytic interpretations of the American writer David Foster Wallace, compiled in his book L’écriture mélancolique (2020), this article sheds a slightly different light on Wallace’s melancholy fiction by focusing on its stylistic and narrative features, its relationship to the reader, and its paradoxically therapeutic virtues.
