Youth subcultures are linked to the social classes to which their members belong. Young peoples’ “choice” to be a Goth, to be a member of a techno Sound System or to be a Rap Artist is not deconnected from their social origins. Considering youth subculture as one unified structure is similar to the mystification of the East when little was known about the region thus leading to a romanticised vision. The social origins of the young must be taken into account in order to recognize the development of youth in society.
