On whiteness: The [white] female body as used by Vogue magazine (Paris and Brazil editions) in the twenty-first century - 2017.

This study concentrates on a qualitative analysis of the discursive production of whiteness in Vogue magazine, supported by gender and post-colonial studies. The images from two fashion editorials from 2008, “Ça, c’est Paris” from Vogue Paris and “Folia de Rainha” from Vogue Brazil, reveal complex phenomena of racial legitimation crossed with other relationships involving social domination (based on class and gender/sex). Whether revolutionary or conservative, this perceived whiteness is the luxury product of a “privileged place,” associated in particular with the [white] female body, as used in Vogue’s (inter)national discursive matrix.
