The development of tourism in Morocco: Between national politics and international geopolitics - 2019.

The present reflection aims to analyze the representations that human actors (tourists and the local population) have of terrorism and its impact on Morocco’s tourism boom, and, beyond that, on the large-scale tourism development projects that are the realization of sectoral strategies over the last few years. Morocco offers a good example of political and social stability. It is a country open to tourism which has seen, for a long time, its national political strategy include tourism as a priority sector essential to its socio-economic progress. However, the success of its development is still an “eternal hope,” despite the many development plans put in place since the 1960s. How can these results be justified? What are the future prospects of the Moroccan tourism sector in a world disrupted by so-called “Islamist” terrorism whose action is growing in time and space?
