A forgotten figure in the history of sociology, Louis de Bonald nevertheless developed, at the turn of the nineteenth century, on the basis of his political theology, a system of social philosophy that was particularly innovative in its form, going on to influence some elements of Auguste Comte’s system of positive philosophy. In this article, we will try to unearth the lineaments of a Bonaldian sociology starting from the philosophy of knowledge he developed in Recherches philosophiques sur les premiers objets des connaissances morales and then focusing on his method and social theory, strictly speaking.
