The aim of this paper is to retrace the steps involved in the process of the postmodern individual’s construction of the self, using the analysis of the TV series Mr Robot as a starting point. In the following paragraphs, the difficulties and obstacles encountered in the construction of a stable and unified self and the various strategies adopted from time to time to try to cope with them will be presented. Specific reference is made to the literary sensitivity of Kafka, a writer of the early twentieth century who, with his writings, has masterfully anticipated the contemporary feeling.
