The management of working times in journalism - 2017.

This article addresses the management of time within the profession of sports journalists within Swiss daily news, where a significant increase of women has been seen since 2000. Field observations and interviews show that male sports journalists promote working rhythms that often lead them to be under pressure, something that they like, since it is a source of “good” stress and it proves their commitment to their job. Due to their professional trajectory and the significant family and domestic constraints they have to face, women journalists cannot adopt this form of time organization. Far from reflecting their concrete practices, male journalists’ discourses contribute to defining legitimate professional activity according to norms that are distant from those that women journalists believe in; thus, women journalists continue to be locked in a work relationship where men remain dominant.
