Controversies surrounding Muslim women wearing a veil have profoundly reconfigured the space of the women’s cause in France. This article analyzes the differential reception of the “Muslim problem” in the French sphere of feminist non-profit organizations, based on an ethnographic study in a local branch of France’s family planning organization, Planning familial. I claim that an analysis linking the sociology of labor with the sociology of activism provides useful insights for understanding the representations and practices of feminist workers toward racialized women, especially Muslim recipients.
