Based on a comparative ethnographic study of two composting business networks, this article analyzes the emergence of a market created for ecological reasons and the processes of selecting ecological initiatives that take place within it. While the institutional context encourages the politicization and conversion of individuals who were previously less engaged, these new entrants significantly alter power dynamics between different ecological approaches. Analyzing polarization and selection within the market provides a new perspective on the thesis of the co-optation of ecological causes by capitalism, highlighting the role of unequal individual resources and public authority action in regulating and legitimizing the economic order.
