Using tools from the sociology of justification (Boltanski and Thévenot, 1991), this study reveals a particularway of qualifying the world that individuals and social groups use to assert qualities when they try to define common good. In this case, the participatory and deliberative revision of the Quebec land use planning and development schema is not only consistent with the precepts of sustainable development but also may cause the greening of norms and practices in land use management.
