To discuss the links between the field of physical education and racket sports, this article presents the “dual” perspective of a researcher, Yohan Penel, who is the president of a federation: the Fédération Française de Badminton (FFBaD) (French Badminton Federation). By addressing the links between federal policy, the academic world, and professional training, and by placing the issue of sporting performance alongside that of social performance, Yohan Penel offers a vision that stands in stark contrast to preconceived notions of the federal world.
