Old souls. Reflection on the pedagogical consequences of a metaphysical conviction in view of Rudolph Steiner’s thought - 2019.

Rudolph Steiner’s ideas concerning education were expressed at the very beginning of the 20th century and, in 1919, put into practice when Stuttgarts free Waldorf school was founded. These ideas remain unrecognized in France, and are often linked with the progressive education movement, beside figures such as Montessori or Freinet. However, this association ignores the metaphysics founding Steiner’s pedagogy, a metaphysic that cannot be separated from its practices. This article will study the steinerian conception of the child by taking seriously his relationship with anthroposophy. Does the idea of childhood as reincarnation recognize a specific wisdom in the child or does it attempt to tame it?
