Older couples face many challenges related to the changes brought about by aging. These changes affect individual identity, but the literature does not explore the impact of these changes on the identity of the older couple. Older adults, and especially the couples they form, are less likely to seek professional psychological services. This article explores the concept of older adults’ marital identity in the literature and suggests that supporting the marital identity of aging couples may be an interesting avenue to explore in targeted interventions.
