Social workers in rural areas at the heart of the living environment and in close contact with residents - 2018.

Does social intervention in rural areas have a specific nature? To attempt a response to this question, the author adopted an empirical approach: Interviews were carried out with professionals working in rural environments. The profile of the area studied is presented: Its rural population has a low level of training, employment is scarce, and mobility is restricted and may correspond to the desire to stay in the person’s immediate environment. Poverty and insecurity levels are high. From what the interviewees said, what seems to be specific in their approach is related to their particular conception of the profession, a professional posture, and a predominance of close contact with the people they support. These professionals are on the front line, in direct contact with individuals and the population as a whole.
