Supporting aging, from yesterday to today

Supporting aging, from yesterday to today - 2024.
29
Population aging, a major public health challenge, requires a widespread societal reorganization, with particular attention paid to issues related to old age. The evolution of our perceptions of aging are prompting reflection on issues such as autonomy, dependence, end-of-life issues, psychopathological adjustments, and the interplay of old age with somatic and cognitive diseases. These are all essential considerations for carers of older adults, enabling them to adjust their care and support plans and systems accordingly. Old age psychiatry has been built around these issues and has integrated a wide range of skills, spanning the fields of health and medical-social care, combining medical and psychological expertise with ethical input.
