Parental depression and the use of objects in parent-infant interactions at three months postpartum - 2021.

Postpartum depression (PPD) affects how parents communicate with their baby. Although clinical descriptions have documented the excessive use of objects by depressed parents in play with their child between zero and four months of age, this phenomenon has never been investigated empirically. This study intended to fill this gap. The results indicate that there is a strong link between depression and object use in play for mothers, but not for fathers.
