Cassius Dio, a Greco-Roman Writer of the 2nd Century - 2013.

Cassius Dio seems to be a good example of the bilingualism and cultural integration of the second century A.D. Native of Bithynia, senator and Roman consul, he knows very well the Roman institutions, even those of the republican time, and he strives to translate specific Latin words with accuracy. When possible, he prefers literary terms to official terminology. To prove it, we give some examples like that the Romans call “ supplicatio”, “ tribunicia potestas”, “ senatus”, or “ triumvir”.
